Athirappilli the magnificent waterfalls are a destination in themselves as well as being conveniently situated on Thrissur district. Here the Chalakudy river plunges over rocks in three spectacular cascades 24 mts to the river bed below where it flows onward to the Arabian sea.

Wildlife is prolific in the surrounding forests, leading the Indian Wildlife trust to recommend that it becomes a sanctuary due to a successful elephant conservation program and the presence of many other species including leopard, Indian bison, sambar, tiger and the lion tailed macaque. These forests are the only location where all four species of Indian hornbill can be found in one location.
